HONGKONG- M&C Saatchi has appointed Ms Janice Chan( 陈若诗) as general manager for M&C Saatchi Hong Kong and China.

She joins the agency from FCB, one of Hong Kong’s top five agencies, where she was client service director.

Ms Chan began her career in advertising when she worked as an intern at Saatchi & Saatchi, Los Angeles in 1987. She received two years of brand management training working at Kellogg Australia, after the completion of an MBA degree in Sydney.

Having lived away from home for 10 years, she returned to Hong Kong in 1993 and worked at Ogilvy & Mather, Leo Burnett and Foote Cone & Belding.

Ms Chan has also worked on some of the world’s most famous brands, including McDonald’s, Procter & Gamble, Pepsi-Cola, Unilever, Kellogg’s, as well as world-class local companies such as MTR, Standard Chartered Bank, Cheung Kong.

Mr Ian Thubron, chief executive officer of M&C Saatchi Hong Kong, described Ms Chan as “one of the best and most respected practitioners in the industry”.

“To attract a person of her experience and calibre is a testament to our unique and exciting positioning in the market,” Mr Thubron said.

“Janice will play a critical role as we continue to expand our business here in Hong Kong and in Greater China. She joins the leadership team of Tan Khiang(陈謇), Andy Wong, Keiron Simpson and myself at a time of huge opportunity for us.”

Additionally, M&C Saatchi has announced the promotion and transfer of Ms Pip Landers, currently client service director of M&C Saatchi Hong Kong, to worldwide account director for the British Airways business, based at M&C Saatchi in London.

She will relocate by the end of the year.

Ms Landers joined M&C Saatchi in 1997 and has run some of the agency’s major accounts, such as British Airways, Qantas, Carlsberg and HSBC.

“Losing Pip makes me feel two things: on the one hand sad, because Pip is part of the fabric of the agency and also a friend,” said Mr Thubron.

“On the other hand, proud that M&C Saatchi Hong Kong has nurtured a talent which will now play of a broader stage.”

M&C Saatchi Hong Kong has grown from 15 to 35 people since 1998, and now bills in excess of HKdollars 200 million, putting it within the top 15 agencies in Hong Kong.

Major clients include the Mandarin Oriental Hotel Group, British Airways, Qantas, Asiana Airlines, Hongkong.com, BUPA, Carlsberg, iAsiaWorks and Bank of America.
