SHANGHAI: McCann-Erickson managing director, Melvin Chua(蔡伟志), is leaving the agency after a six-year stint to set up his own marketing consultancy company.

The new company will be called Ink Pak Communication Group(上海映尚广告传播有限公司) and will offer event management, entertainment marketing and consultancy services, as well as TV and film production.

According to Chua, the company – which has secured two investors – has already set up offices in Shanghai, Manila and Hong Kong.

"I wanted to try something new after six years at McCann," said Chua.

"We were actually looking to set up a division in McCann for entertainment marketing so I had been doing this for some time. I think there is a need for good, integrated marketing, and so we will look to offer event management, production of film and TV, and PR, but we will not be limited to this."

Chua added that Ink Pak Communications had signed on a number of local clients in China, and was working on two projects in Hong Kong.

"We have seen a lot of interest from local companies looking to build brands in Hong Kong and Taiwan. We have also got some work related to the World Cup. But in particular, we have signed on fashion-related clients that want to take advantage of China's WTO entry)."
