ASIA-PACIFIC: Mead Johnson Nutritionals, a division of Bristol Myers Squibb, has appointed Saatchi & Saatchi to handle its range of infant milk brands worldwide.

Annual billings for the account is estimated to be US$35 million, with the bulk likely to be spent in Asia.

There was no pitch for the business, which was previously held by D'Arcy. There was no change in the media agency which remains the remit of Starcom.

However, Patrick Pitcher, Saatchis Asia-Pacific and Africa chief executive officer, said the agency had to "demonstrate its capability in terms of both strategic thinking and creativity".

The review process took about four months to complete.

Pitcher said that about 12 ex-D'Arcy staffers in the region were hired to ensure a smooth transition in markets such as Greater China and Southeast Asia. Among them are Titima Opaswongkarn, who was appointed regional account director for Mead Johnson, based in Bangkok, where the brand is headquartered, and Hong Kong-based James Lau, regional creative director.

Both previously served in the same role in D'Arcy. Pitcher said that Saatchis had started work on campaigns for Mead Johnson, whose main brands are Enfa, Sustagen, Alacta and Lactum.
