Motorola has handed its global PR account to Fleishman-Hillard(福莱国际) after a competitive review that got under way last year, comes ahead of a planned overhaul of the mobile phone firm’s other agency relationships worldwide.

Motorola director of external comms Chuck Kaiser told : ‘We will consider the need to review country agency relationships case by case.’

Motorola is the world’s second-biggest handset maker after Nokia, and is responsible for phones such as the Razr, Pebl and Rokr. Last month the company revealed that its profits had almost halved in the three months to the end of 2006 to around £316m. It has been particularly hit by falling handset prices worldwide.

The firm retains agencies including JCPR/Edelman (UK PR) and The Fish Can Sing (global buzz marketing), plus Hill & Knowlton (US and other markets’ PR) and Ogilvy (Asia).

Motorola is also working with New York-based corporate comms agency Joele Frank, Wilkinson Brimmer Katcher. The agency is advising on how to deal with the news that billionaire investor raider Carl Icahn – well-known as a corporate raider – plans to run for a seat on Motorola’s board. Kaiser would not comment on Icahn’s planned involvement.

JCPR/Edelman was only appointed to Motorola’s UK account – worth around £300,000 – last summer, when it beat three other agencies to the work (The agencies replaced eight-year incumbent Firefly Communications).
