Shanghai – French luxury group Hermes has appointed MPG, the media communication unit of Havas Media, to handle its media budget for Greater China.

MPG won the account covering Hong Kong, Shanghai and Taiwan following a pitch that include Zenith Optimedia and OMD.

Havas Media’s interactive unit, Media Contacts will be charged to handle its online activities.

According to previous Reuters report, Hermes intends to set up three to four stores in China each year in the following three years to meet growing needs of wealthy Chinese consumers.

As of last year, the company has 12 stores in China. Patrick Albaladejo, executive VP for Hermes, said China is very likely to become Hermes’ major global market in four to five years, as the number of millionaires in the country has exceeded 415,000 since the end of 2007.
