Art Director
Division/Discipline: Creative

JOB SUMMARY
You are a fresh creative thinker, with a passion for design in all media and a love of making things.
You live for interactive, have a contagious work ethic with a maniacal attention to detail, strive to produce the work at the highest quality standards and absorb design knowledge and trends.
You are a talented Art Director who is responsible for concept development and the translation and extension of concepts into effective visual designs for interactive marketing, online campaigns, web and motion-based projects. Under the direction of a Creative Lead (CD, ACD, Sr Art Director), you will work on several projects at a time and will be involved in all phases of creative development. You may also be responsible for planning and executing portions of projects independently or in conjunction with junior creative staff or freelancers. You may also be involved in new business projects. You work independently, with moderate oversight from your manager.

CORE DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES

CONCEPTING
• In partnership with copy lead, contributes to the creation of breakthrough, on-strategy concepts through leadership of and active participation in brainstorms and other idea-generating sessions.
• Helps establish look and feel of concepts.
• Has an advanced knowledge of client’s business objectives, brand, consumer and competitive landscape to inform design concepts and execution.
• Understands role of creative brief, how work should flow from it, and how to develop ideas against it.
• Presents creative concepts and designs and communicates rationale to team.

DESIGN
• Leverages an advanced understanding of technology, user interface design and visual design in generating/leading a project’s creative team to generate an effective range of designs/layouts for all elements of the creative solution that address program objectives, and are visually appealing and motivating.
• Stays current on and strategically applies the latest industry and design trends and state-of-the-art techniques. Has strong understanding of many digital best practices.
• Designs and begins to direct others to design mood boards, comps (with and without wireframes), concept sketches, presentation decks and storyboards. May also contribute content to decks.
• Assists in asset creation and developing a production plan.
• May begin to direct still photo and video shoots. Recommends suitable illustrations, photography, video and/or sound.
• Prepares and presents layouts/samples to supervisor for direction and approval. Incorporates revisions per client and/or team feedback as appropriate. Ensures their layouts and the team’s conform to creative brief and style guides.
• Manages the creation and maintenance of style guides/online design libraries to accompany final deliverables.

COLLABORATION
• Works enthusiastically, respectfully and collaboratively with other team members on assigned accounts, understanding how the account operates and their’s and other team members’ roles and responsibilities across the account.
• Partners with creative lead, media, delivery, experience and technology at different levels to ensure the solution meets brief and program objectives.
• Considers technology requirements and designs a solution that complements the technical strategy and/or partners with the technology staff to overcome implementation obstacles.
• Has a basic understanding of when to leverage other disciplines (i.e. media, strategy) in the creation of the work.

PROJECT EXECUTION
• Frequently touches base with the creative and delivery leads to ensure deliverables are on time and map to the creative brief. Proactively suggests solutions to issues that may impact quality or timing of deliverables.
• Actively participates in team meetings to discuss assignment parameters.
• Ensures that their and junior creative resources’ deliverables meet deadlines and follow appropriate approval procedures.
• Independently manages and prioritizes work effectively, and proactively escalates work load conflicts.
• Develops tools and recommendations to improve current processes that impact client deliverables.

COMMUNITY & BUSINESS CONTRIBUTION
• Responsible for giving continuous feedback to peers, completing self-review, inputting time consistently, and being aware of personal utilization target.
• Actively develops and may lead community-building events.
• Serves as a mentor to employee(s) on projects.
• Contributes to the development of the creative team’s culture and quality standards in pursuit of elevating the creative product.

REQUIRED SKILLS/KNOWLEDGE/EXPERIENCE

Excellent eye for design, imaginative, well organized, good-natured, dedicated, flexible and passionate, you bring a sophisticated understanding of visual and experience design, typography, composition and color theory. You also bring an understanding of how to partner with content strategy, copywriting, technology and media. Besides a Bachelor’s degree in Graphic Design, Fine Arts, Multi-Media Design (or a related field), you have the following:

• Exceptional digital design portfolio that demonstrates conceptual thinking and an ability to define look and feel for integrated experiences
• 4+ years design experience, preferably in an interactive agency
• Expert command of standard design and layout applications (e.g. PhotoShop, Illustrator, InDesign). Competency with at least one of, as well as experience or exposure to the following: Flash ActionScripting, video editing (e.g. FinalCut Pro), or motion graphics (e.g. After Effects).
• Demonstrated ability to utilize feedback/direction from creative lead to generate multiple design explorations and iterate designs to the satisfaction of lead (and ensure junior resources do the same).
• Has managed and may have led multiple assignments at the same time (including organizing and prioritizing workload, and working efficiently under pressure in a deadline-driven environment).
• Advanced understanding of the digital landscape, including everything from ecommerce websites, immersive and personalized online experiences to online campaigns, social media and mobile.
• Creative problem solving skills that enable you to help establish a look and feel for a given project, evaluate a creative approach, brainstorm, think and respond quickly while delivering unexpected, original and innovative ideas;
• Careful attention to detail and management of version control issues.
• Advanced knowledge of and the ability to help manage the production process (e.g. optimizing graphics, compression settings and file size and image optimization
• Strong written and verbal communication skills. Able to clearly articulate your creative process, thoughts, ideas and a point of view about your work.
• Excellent interpersonal skills, a positive attitude, a sense of humor and the ability to thrive in a collaborative agency environment with multi-disciplinary teams.
• Competent understanding of technical and cross-platform implications (e.g. strengths and limitations of Flash, Ajax, Flex, and other emerging platforms).

Designer

CORE DUTIES/RESPONSIBILITIES
• Designing solutions that meet or exceed the project’s stated objectives
• Contributing to the creation of interactive design concepts through participation in brainstorms and other idea-generating team sessions
• Designing mood boards, storyboards, interactive page layouts, site grids and interface demos, photo retouching and enhancements, animated GIFs under direction of the project design lead
• Maintaining high quality on creative and presentation deliverables
• Actively contribute to Studio and project team rapport

REQUIRED SKILLS/EXPERIENCE
• Strong design portfolio with 4+ years education; 2+ years design and interactive work experience preferred
• Ability to articulate and present thoughts and creative ideas
• Ability to multi-task and work efficiently under pressure with careful attention to detail
• A solid working knowledge of the latest versions of applicable programs — Mac OS, Photoshop and Illustrator, etc.
• A basic understanding of motion design

Senior Designer

Under the direction of a Creative Lead (CD, ACD and/or Art Director), you will work on several projects at a time and will be involved in all phases of creative development, with a focus on design execution. You may also be involved in new business projects. You receive moderate oversight and guidance from your manager for job performance.

CORE DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES

Concepting
• In partnership with copy lead, contributes to the creation of interactive design concepts through active participation in brainstorms and other idea-generating sessions.

• Performs photo retouching and enhancements as necessary.
• Researches and reviews suitable illustrations, photography or stock photos and sound.
• Prepares and presents layouts/samples to supervisor for direction and approval. Incorporates revisions per client and/or team feedback as appropriate. Ensures approved layouts conform to style guides.
• Assists project’s creative lead in necessary research and preparation of client presentation materials.
• Contributes to and maintains style guides/online design libraries to accompany final deliverables.

Collaboration
• Works enthusiastically, respectfully and collaboratively with other project team members, has a clear understanding of how a project team operates, their responsibilities throughout a project and what is expected in critiques and team meetings.
