Account Director, Ketchum China

Location: Shanghai

Reporting Line:    Senior Vice President (Office Director), Shanghai

Position Overview
Ketchum is looking for an Account Director to help manage the brand team in China, serving clients in the travel / food & beverage / consumer goods sector. S/he will be responsible for maintaining & building Ketchum’s existing business and functioning as the most senior account service leader for the client. Except serving the existing clients, to help expand Ketchum’s portfolio is also a key priority. 

This job will most suit a senior brand specialist with a deep understanding of China’s lifestyle sectors with travel and consumer goods and experience working in a marketing agency as a client service director for relevant major international brands. The role provides the opportunity to join Ketchum’s China team at an exciting moment of growth and to be part of most highly rated global PR networks.  The position will be based in Shanghai and will report directly Senior Vice President (Office Director) of the Ketchum Shanghai office. 

Key responsibilities
• Senior marketing communications specialist for all Ketchum’s brand team accounts in Shanghai, China. Direct responsibility for managing the client, delivering breakthrough work, building and maintaining a best-in-class account service team in alignment with Ketchum’s global client service values. Supporting the development of a “One China” team across Ketchum’s offices currently serving travel and consumer goods clients.    

Client service and satisfaction
• Act as primary client relationship manager; drive relationships and business. Maintain relationships with all relevant key contacts with clients. 
• Maintain an up-to-date network of contacts with influencers, KOLS, celebrities, agents, editors, bloggers, and other resources outside the agency that can be tapped into in order to deliver effective, integrated and breakthrough communications programs. Proactively look for ways to leverage a network of KOLs for the benefit of the client. Integrate other members of the account team into your network and encourage them to develop their own networks of relevant contacts. 
• Keep abreast of key trends in China of the travel and consumer goods industry so as to be able to deliver thought-provoking insights relevant to your client. Engage with appropriate key opinion leaders, media and consumers to gather information and provide strategic insight and high-level consultancy to all brands serviced by Ketchum China. 
• Guide the development of proposals and programs for the client. Coach and support account teams to develop their planning and execution skills. 
• Oversee the implementation of approved communications plans, in conjunction with other agencies or parties who are members of the BAL team. 
• Proactively seek opportunities to present new concepts or ideas that will enable the client to meet their business and communications objectives.
• Champion the importance of client satisfaction and service with the team. Lead by example and encourage positive client relationship-building behaviours.
Account Management 
• Deliver revenue and margin targets for Shanghai brand team. 
• Help create a fully-integrated PR/social media account service team. Act as mentor to the team, helping train junior team members in beauty industry knowledge and sophisticated communications techniques and strategy. 
• QC team members’ work and ensure Ketchum delivers best-in-class service to the client. 
• Work with the Ketchum finance team to manage finances of the business, including budgeting, invoicing, settlement of vendor accounts, financial reconciliation etc. 
• Ensure full agency and team compliance with all relevant clients’ ethics, procurement and stewardship policies and regulations. 
• Manage the business and teams as cost effectively and productively as possible. Work with human resources in the appropriate handling of personnel matters, management of staffing issues and professional development for your team members.
• Support Shanghai Office Director, GC social/digital strategist and other leadership. Ensure that your team members adhere to Ketchum’s policies, values and ethics and nurture the Ketchum culture within your team.  

Business development
• Support development of Ketchum’s business with existing clients and other non-competitive consumer goods brands in China.  
• Proactively look for efficiencies which can be passed onto the client including Value Creation and unaided brand recognition initiatives. 
• Interact with the global Ketchum brand team to identify and pursue business expansion opportunities

• Self-motivated, entrepreneurial approach coupled with a collaborative attitude.
• Native Mandarin speaker. Strong English and proven ability to effortlessly bridge the two.
• Previous experience of working for major international beauty brand in a PR function. 
• Proven strategic and client management skills.
• Proven team leader. 
• Ability to travel as necessary within China and potentially internationally. 

Corporate Practice – Account Supervisor (or Account Manager)

Location: Shanghai

Reporting Line: Senior Account Manager, Shanghai

• Support senior team members in client counsel in both traditional PR and digital PR.
• Create and develop documents for clients including news releases, features, opinion pieces, by-lined articles, briefing books, and proposals.
• Manage client teams and support the development of plans for client work with Senior Account Manager. Project Management: Communicate to the team any priorities, deadlines, developments and decisions made, involving key senior staff as needed.
• Review team’s work and provide constructive feedback on the creative direction of the work, effectively brief team members on revising materials appropriately.
• Maintain, develop, and share key media contacts with team. Develop excellent relationships with influencers, third parties, key senior client contacts and Ketchum colleagues to provide appropriate skills and input to programmes and activities.
• Continuously update and maintain understanding and knowledge of the media and market in which clients operate.
• Contribute towards the construction of creative brainstorm sessions, share new ideas and support and encourage colleagues.
• Demonstrate growing competencies in project management and leadership skills through running the day to day implementation of client events and programmes.
• Ensure the delivery of campaigns and events across the team at the highest standard through reviewing materials on a regular basis and advising on inconsistencies
• Own opportunities to demonstrate client counsel and strategic skills.
• Work with the client on a day to day basis to ensure accurate budget management.
• Explore opportunities for any additional projects.
• Support the team in delivering the brief by driving the quality and direction of the team on a day to day basis, highlight any potential issues to Senior Account Manager(s).
• Maintain regular communication with junior and senior team members ensuring the team operates in most effective and efficient way to meet client needs.
• Maintain involvement in team/management/group initiatives.
• Provide suggestions to Senior Account Manager for opportunities to grow and expand our work with existing clients.

Minimum Qualifications:
• A bachelor’s degree or above in business, communications, marketing, journalism, or translation.
• 4-5 years of experience in public relations or equivalent.
• Having experience in corporate communications and familiarity with business media is an advantage.
• 1 year Team Management experience
• Clear track record of delivering strategic and creative communications programs

Account Manager

Location: Ketchum Beijing, China

Reporting Line:  Senior Account Manager

• Work in the Integrated Marketing Communication Team
• Maintain regular contact with clients; look for new ideas and ways to meet client needs. 
• Develop clear understanding and knowledge of the clients’ business, industries and their competitive environments. 
• Actively participate/contribute to the development of account plans/ideas.
• Participate in program presentations to clients.
• Draft full range written materials including press releases, articles, speeches, presentations, project/event reports, meeting minutes, client correspondence etc.  
• Verify information to assure accuracy of media materials and contacts.
• Coordinate events such as press conference, media briefings, media tours, product launches, store openings etc. 
• Develop and maintain media contacts and leverage them for clients’ needs.  
• Implement specific account plans under the strategic direction of immediate supervisors and senior management. 
• Support supervisors and senior management as and when necessary.  
• Coordinate with vendors.  
• Draft project budgets or estimates, invoices etc. 
• Assist in research projects and gathering information for new business proposals, research papers etc. 

Minimum Qualifications:
• 5+ year experience in agency/in-house, lifestyle/luxury/FMCG client service background is a must
